Do you see Felix?
In my post Seeing Beyond earlier this week I made a point of training our eyes to see beyond the obvious. In a way to unlearn the usual way of perceiving the world around us. If we do so a completely new world will open up for us – and when talking about photography, a completely new and exciting array of image will come out of it as a result.
If you are up for it, I would like to challenge you. Go out there and photograph and create photos where the subject is not what is seems to be. Make a photo where the viewer will see something different and surprising, where a rock has turned into an animal, where the fur of a cat has turned into a forest, where spilled milk looks like a river running through a landscape, or… The point is to surprise and make us see beyond the obvious.
If you are up for the challenge, and whenever you have a photograph with a different perspective on the world, please post a link to the photo beneath. After a couple of weeks, I will compile the results and showcase the photos in a post here on this blog.
Are you ready to give it a try?
Yes! Sounds like fun. I will be on the look out.
Great, Mary. I look forward to seeing the result.
Uhh, this is not easy!
robert
I know, and that’s part of the deal. 🙂
Wie gehts? It is kind of cool whether one has a camera or not to see differently.
Of course you are right. One doesn’t need a camera to see differently.
This is so inherently true sir!
Very good idea… hmm.
Maybe I’ll see a picture from you?…
Probably not but I definitely keep it in mind 🙂
Ok ci provo, spero di riuscire!
Saluti, Pat
Non vedo l’ora di vedere una foto da voi. 🙂
Ecco la foto, è molto strana e l’avevo in mente da un po’ di tempo, perché la vedevo proprio così. Ma credo che difficilmente ti piacerà. 😦
L’ho chiamata.. “L’antro di un monte”
You will be surprised about what I like. 🙂 It’s quite abstract, but it does give me an idea of a mountain lair. Thank you for the first contribution to this challenge, Patrizia.
I would actually love to give it a try. I will be alert. 🙂
I hope see a photo from you, Debra. 🙂
Yes, I see Felix, and I’m sure i can do this challenge, Otto. Watch this space. 🙂
Looking forward to see your surprise, Sylvia.
Felix the Cat is a tree hugger!
Look at that! 🙂
I don’t know who Felix is, but I do see Batman! I think I’ll give it a whirl. I can’t guarantee I’ll find something, but the looking is part of the fun.
Great.Batman is as good as anything. See you with a photo then. 🙂
um i see felix, but not willing to go out looking for my own felix lol
Maybe you can find another animal…
I love what you do with words. It is amazing how you shape your emotions and expressions into words.
I’d be glad if you could visit and review my blog too. Thanks xx
Thank you for the lovely feedback. I will come and have a look at your blog. 🙂
Visit awaited. Thanks 🙂
Mycket intressant och spännande Otto, vill så klart delta bara nu länkandet fungerar.
Vi skal nok få det til på et eller annet vis. Gleder meg til å se hva du får til.

Mitt bidrag hoppas det funkar.
Takk. Det fungerer veldig bra. Og herlig bilder!
I will do my best Otto! It sounds like fun and quite challenging!
Will be fun to see what you come up with, Adrian.
I’m not a very talented photographer, but your insight into seeing the world in different ways has really inspired me in my writing. Finding new ways to approach and rethink a subject is the best part of art!
It makes me happy if my writing can be of some inspiration. Thank you for the nice feedback, Claire.
Do you have an email address i can send a pic to? That’s the best way atm for me
Send to ottovon@online.no. The longest side no longer than 1000 pixels please. 🙂
Hi Otto, just emailed you. Apologies for the shite editing!
I got the email – and will get back with an answer.
Love this challenge and happened to have this one from this year – hopefully I’ve got the link right if not I might try the email address. Let me know Otto https://beyondpurgatory.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=5631
The link works perfectly – and what a fun photo!
Oh meant to say I saw another one today but haven’t downloaded it yet, will pop it on for good measure.
Hello
Thank you for your comments and passages during my vacation
A nice idea for this challenge here !!!
And on my side, I ask / Why you shooting?
See you soon to see results
Why do I shoot? That’s a big question. I might have to make a post out that…
That’s Felix alright! One of favorite cats. The forest looks welcoming.
It is a great forest in the northern Cascades.
Thats a fun challenge !!
Hope to see a photo from you!
This is rather simplistic but I’ll keep working on it. http://lichtyears.com/2015/08/21/happy-weekend/
It doesn’t matter whether it’s simplistic or intricate. 🙂 It’s a great photo.
Will await the complication–it’s a great exercise in seeing.
Then I will await the complication as a well. 🙂
Oh, how I detest autocorrect. I meant compilation.
Here you are. A little bit of specialness from my part of the world!
Thank you. What a cool landscape (that’s my first perception at least).
A fabulous photo and exciting challenge, I will be on the look-out as well.
Great. Look forward to seeing a different picture. 🙂
Hi Otto, a great challenge to work with but unfortunately no time to go out and create a new photo. So this this is an old one from the archive but it may be something fitting this theme
France, Dinan – July 1996
I am not sure if html script works here, so i post the link as well.

Thank you for the contribution and for the link, as obviously the html script didn’t work. But the photo show a cool perspective.
Thanks Otto!
And a new try 🙂
alas…………………….
Yes, but I’ll work with the link. 🙂
Here’s my entry for your challenge. Have a great weekend, Otto. 🙂 https://anotherday2paradise.wordpress.com/2015/08/29/ottos-challenge-seeing-beyond/
Thank you, Sylvia. That is a lovely portrait!
Så gøy, Otto! Ser det er et par nyere poster enn dette, men de må jeg lese ordentlig i morgen… henger meg på med et mobilbilde jeg tok på vei til jobb her om dagen 🙂

Thank you for participating in the challenge. That is a really cool picture!
At first, I saw a big bat clinging to a tree.
I can see that. 🙂
