Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week. It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. The pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

  1. The guy behind her is more in focus and attracts my eye, wonder what he’s texting! Also he looks tiny in comparison to the woman. A strange but compelling shot.

  2. I found this shot to have a rather unsettling vibe, I think in part, because the woman might be in distress, or simply poor health. And because the pattern on her shirt, at least in B&W, resembles a reptile skin .

    1. But I “hasten to add”– very intriguing, and I think capturing an image that manages to push the viewer off-balance is something to be applauded.

  3. I am not sure how you capture her emotion. It seems you must be so close to her and was able to shoot this close, if my guess is right. I hope she was alright.

  4. the presence of the busy young man with his smartphone adds even more to the tragic feeling expressed by this woman in the foreground. a street picture as everyone would like to shoot. congratulations.

  5. This is a strong image Otto! It seems something dramatic is happening in front of the woman and the boy not far behind her doesn’t notice it! A possible front page for a book…the B&W and the “dark” treatment enhace thie disturbing feeling…well done Otto!

  6. An intense expression, Otto. It makes me wonder what’s going on inside her. And I love the contrast with the tattooed fellow with the sleeveless tee and backward cap. I sense that he’s looking over his sunglasses at you, but he if he hadn’t seen you, would he have been calmly looking at his phone? Fascinating.
