Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week. It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. The pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

  1. Love this type of street photography. The flow and movement of her hair, and the soft “feel” of her face are wonderful against the gritty backdrop.

  2. OTTO –
I like the composition – the Angles and shapes – rectangles and triangles and focal point all Mix with softness of graffiti and subject –

  3. The tilt of her head and the flow of her hair reminded me of Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. Granted, in the painting it’s the veil that’s flowing, but the shape is the same, and the resemblance is uncanny. Add in the shaft of light, and there’s no question I’d title it Madonna of the Cellphone.

  4. I second Prior’s comment, I like the relaxed human form, in movement, superimposed on all those lines, squares, angles, rectangles. And Linda’s comment as well, the Annunciation Via Cellphone, saves the angels flying all that way.

  5. The comments prove that the photo & photographer- You Otto- captured a ‘accidental moment’ that reassures us of our own humanity. And the human condition. The clouds, wind effects on her and sunbeams do add for me a triangle – keeping the movement instant. Thank you again Otto!

  6. Yes, again I like this style. It is strong, with the focus on the young woman while showing the environment that she is in. The lines of the sun point to her and I wonder how aware she is of her environment as her focus is on the phone.Love the black and white and the point of view.

  7. She is so engrossed in her conversation, and your photo captures this. I’m torn between wanting to hear the conversation, and giving her space to talk. Such a great one, Otto.

  8. Without that mysterious light flare, this would be just a mundane image. But those fingers of light seem to be reaching down from the heavens to what? Alert the talking woman? Crown her with grace? So much to think about.

  9. I love the look of peace and calm on the woman’s face. So often when people are walking and on the phone there is a more harried expression. This is such an ordinary moment in time, but it stands out as special.

  10. I really like your efforts with this style. It’s a nice, solid addition to your previous work.

  11. She is slowly cutting the web of the work and talking to the person named sweet home where she is flowing opposite to relax .
