Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week. It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. The pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

  1. how the other half lives, we do not have much to complain about (apart from Brexit), we are miljonairs compared with those folk but I bet many are content with their existence and laugh a lot more than we do.

  2. Fantastic composition! There is so much going on, yet you’ve framed the geometric elements so well that it feels harmonious instead of overwhelming. A virtual world in a single frame, Otto — well done!

  3. So many focal points of interest in this photo, Otto. It could almost be chaotic, but somehow you frame your scenes to where it all comes together and takes an ordinary scene and makes it feel special.

  4. This would make an interesting set with your earlier photos featuring utility lines. Context is everything: a line is a line is a line, except when the environment and culture in which it’s strung differs radically from others around the world. Beyond that, looking at the various loops and splices and unconnected lines, it’s possible to get a sense of some of the frustrations and privations underlying the system of utilities there. It’s a compelling photo.

  5. Great composition! I like the way you frame the small road between the buildings starting from the left corner of the picture. It leads the eyes to walk along to the rest of the picture. Nice!!!

  6. Colorful, without being literally colorful! I like the brooding, moody, quiet colors against the complexities of everything going on in the photograph. And the arc of the telephone lines plays so well against the trickle of water running down that street. A pleasing shot!

  7. So many elements there that stir up memories… Usually there are also the transfos, up in the open air like the cables… too much rain – and they go “boom!” – and there goes the ‘novela’… out comes the rum and it is still so much fun, salted with sarcastic remarks on the electricity of Cuba – and so much more… neighbours dropping in for a drink, a talk, a smoke… Lovely photo!
