Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week. It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. Except for the technical details beneath the pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

  1. Lovely to see where you live and the snow in the background, Otto.
I’d love to see your name a wee bit larger in the header, but that’s a personal preference. The layout looks great.

  2. Your new format is lovely. I like the clean look. I eliminated my blogroll, too: not only for aesthetic reasons, but also because it slowed down page loading. I think the header is perfect. The touch of color makes it snap, and helps to make your name memorable. I think the size seems just right.

The contrasts in the photo are wonderful: the warmth of the house and surrounding land against the white snow and the white-topped tower, particularly. The tower looks enough like a chimney that I found myself imagining the snow-covered mountain as the roof of another home: perhaps it’s The Hall of the Mountain King!

    1. In addition to what you write about the blogroll, the fact is that sites changes and disappear all the time and in the end I wasn’t able to keep up with it.

Thanks for the lovely words about the photo. It could be a tribute to the musical piece by Grieg, couldn’t it. 🙂

  3. I love the light, the colors, and the composition, Otto — you’ve hit the trifecta here! But you know what else I love? Imagining that there is a cable stretching aaaallll the way from that antenna on the mountain peak into the back of the house. (Because even in the Alps, you want good TV reception, ha ha.) Lovely work.

      1. Ah, I see! In that case, I bet the cable cars get very good TV reception. 😀 Thank you for indulging my silliness, Otto.

  4. So beautiful! That’s your place? My first thought was “that’s where I want to live”! I guess it’s taken. My second thought was of the tower and how it seems out of place there in that place of serenity. A wonderful photograph, it really makes the imagination roam.

  5. I love the layers in this image. In the background a rather cold and wild mountain scene, moving towards the foreground with cultivated trees, and a snug house tucked in between. This is how I like to design gardens so it really appeals to me how you framed this photo. I sure wish it fitted in my life to go with you on a photography workshop!

  6. Wonderful how the colors harmoniously blend into each other and the entire composition that radiates tranquility on a sunny winter day 🙂 Great picture!
    Best regards, Heidi
