Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week. It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. Except for the technical details beneath the pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

Facts about the photo: The photo was taken with a Panasonic Lumix LX-100 with the lens set at 19.9 mm (the equivalent of a 44 mm lens for a fullformat camera). The photo was transferred to my cell phone and processed first with the Pixlr-o-matic app and then with the Snapseed app with various adjustments.

Stunning silhouette and composition within the frame 🙂
The ripples in the water make the image so peaceful and calming.

    Hello Otto,
I love this look in your edit. As someone who just adores colour, I’m really coming around to the more subtle hues of this style.
    Have a lovely weekend 💐

  3. Tish Farrell says:

The strong foreground against the bleached out sky – canoeists and the viewer caught in a daydream. It feels hot, but not too hot.

Do you know what I love about this image — apart from the composition, and the wonderful quality of the light? Like the best writers, you’ve provided only enough context to set the stage and have left if to your readers to fill in the details. (This particular reader is especially intrigued by the kayakers’ body language.) Lovely image, Otto!

    A summer dream, this one!

  18. Very atmospheric, and laid-back. I find it interesting how you can combine different technologies, like transferring a photo from a camera to a cell phone, then use the cell phone software for editing.

    • It’s not that complicated actually. I prefer to use a “real” camera when I can. Not because the Instagram gets better this, but I have a high end photo for other uses as well.

  19. YellowCable says:

The picture makes me feel like evening in summer. You can feel the hot day about to get cool down in the evening. Very nice!

  20. shoreacres says:

Not even enough wave to lap against the hull. That’s the very essence of summertime seas and light: be-calmed, for sure.

  21. I can almost hear and smell this photo. It looks so pleasant, peaceful, and happy, and I love the soft and sharp aspects of it.

  22. Excellent! I get a nostalgic, dreamy feeling.
