Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week (this photo is actually more than a week old, but I haven’t posted any new material the last week). It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. Except for the technical details beneath the pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

Facts about the photo: The photo was taken with a Panasonic Lumix LX-100 with the lens set at 10.9 mm (the equivalent of a 24 mm for a full frame camera). Shutter speed: 1/125 of a second. Aperture: f/13. The photo was transferred to my cell phone and then processed with the Snapseed app and its Drama filter.

  1. Absolutely amazing how much texture there is, the contrail almost looks 3D. Love this!

  2. Matroos Beek says:

The strength of the lines do the trick. And the photographer, of course.

  3. Sue says:

    Love the bisecting lines, Otto!

  4. Wow! That one makes me think someone is about to face the full wrath of God. Glad it’s not pointing at me. 😀 Beautiful shot.

  5. Great capture, Otto. 😃

  6. Heartafire says:

You were surely in the right place at the right time to capture this beautiful trail, very much like a cyclone across the sky. Thank you Otto!

This pic is just wonderful Otto.
    An awesome photograph as usual…

    So simple, such impact.

  10. Jane Lurie says:

Terrific composition and great choices in post, Otto, which made the contrail even more dramatic. I love the man-made objects contrasting with the sky. The Lumix… 😉

It’s worth noting that you turned something many photographers try to eliminate into the centerpiece of your photo. It’s very effective, and such a strong part of the image it renders what could be a clutter of lines almost irrelevant.

  12. Debra says:

You took an ordinary skyline and brought so much more visual interest with the power lines. I would have seen the beautiful sky and been frustrated by the obstruction of the overhead lines. The Drama filter adds so much, too!

  13. Very dramatic…is that plume from an airplane? Just love the composition. Have a good night!

  14. Elaine- says:

now that’s a con trail !!! most excellent shot!!!

  15. Gorgeous! — an icy blade ready to cut the electric cables. Nature vs. Man.

  16. likeitiz says:

    Wow! What a powerful photo!

  17. Powerful shot–great timing!

I like the way you flattened the perspective with your processing choices.
