Last Week’s Instagram

Once a week—or every so often—I will display one of my photos captured and/or processed with Instagram over the last week (this photo is actually more than a week old, but I haven’t posted any new material the last week). It’s a way for me to show photography that usually is quite different from my regular work. Except for the technical details beneath the pictures are displayed without any comments, hoping they will stand on their own. But I still very much appreciate any comments you may have.

Facts about the photo: The photo was taken with a Panasonic Lumix LX-100 with the lens set at 10.9 mm (the equivalent of a 24 mm for a full frame camera). Shutter speed: 1/125 of a second. Aperture: f/13. The photo was transferred to my cell phone and then processed with the Snapseed app and its Drama filter.

  1. You were surely in the right place at the right time to capture this beautiful trail, very much like a cyclone across the sky. Thank you Otto!

  2. Terrific composition and great choices in post, Otto, which made the contrail even more dramatic. I love the man-made objects contrasting with the sky. The Lumix… 😉

      1. Yes. Love it most for street photography. I don’t think I’ve scratched the surface on its capabilities, though. Strange since I shoot manually with a D800. 😉

  3. It’s worth noting that you turned something many photographers try to eliminate into the centerpiece of your photo. It’s very effective, and such a strong part of the image it renders what could be a clutter of lines almost irrelevant.

  4. You took an ordinary skyline and brought so much more visual interest with the power lines. I would have seen the beautiful sky and been frustrated by the obstruction of the overhead lines. The Drama filter adds so much, too!
