Girls Just Cannot Have Fun!

Life for girls in Fugnido camp on the border of South Sudan isn’t easy. They are cooking, sweeping, fetching firewood, carrying water and looking after their siblings; women’s duties in the traditional Nuer culture. My colleague Øystein and I write and show more photos about girls’ life in the camp in the latest post on the our blog Untold Stories.

  1. It seems like so much responsibility for these young girls. I wonder if they just accept it or if they sometimes wish they could play like the boys?

A good question at the end of the “Untold Stories”. Unfortunately, the tradition is carried on strongly (in many places, I am also afraid) for girls.

It’s hard to give an authentic comment on this as one sees the situation through culturally different eyes/perspective. However, I love how the ‘pictures’ tell their own story 😉
