I think enough has been said about the workshop I taught in Cuba with my friend and colleague Sven Creutzmann about a month ago. I just want to round up the experience with a few more image from the magical Caribbean island.

superbe portrait
Thank you.
Great photos of everyday Cuban life. I heard about the vintage cars all maintained and running, because getting newer models was just not possible. I especially like the street views.
Thank you for the feedback.
See how they smile 🙂
Cubans are a smiling people.
Yes. In many ways, I feel they have a lot to smile about.
Your first image sums up the Cuba I would like to see, all in one photo Otto, the colourful houses and people along with the 50’s cars and of course, the more traditional forms of transport. Superb images! 🙂
Thank you, Adrian. I very much appreciate your comment.
Sono immagini incredibilmente belle, che colori e che vita trasmettono!!!
Complimenti caro Otto.
Ciao, un grande saluto
Patrizia
Grazie per le vostre risposte bella, Patrizia. Molto apprezzato.
Beautiful post cards from this beautiful nation 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing, Otto 🙂
And thank you for the comment, Sreejith.
Love your pictures!
Thank you Chica.
love the processing in these shots.
Thanks for the comment, Fraggle.
Great images, Otto…..I love your postcard type frames! I would love to see Cuba again, it’s nearly a decade since I visited. Many interesting memories….correct me if I’m wrong, but your first and last image look to me very much like Trinidad de Cuba
You are right. The first and last photos were captured in Trinidad, indeed. Cuba has changed quite a bit over the last decade – and yet some things never change. Thank you for the comment, Sue.
I loved it- who knows, I might get back. Are you doing any more workshops there?
Sven and I are planning another in September next year. We will get back with more specific information a little later.
Ah, I plan to be away for part of September already….another year?!
Awesome photos!
Thank you, Liv.
I love the first image. The perspective, the colours, the two modes of transport, the fading paint of the car, the unknown dialogue of the guy on the cart and the kids on the step, the framing, colour of the houses, sky, everything. There’s so much going on and it’s so iconic. The last one I love too, there’s character and attitude, texture of the cobbles, the smile on the guy’s face, and of course – The Cuban Cigar! Wonderful.
Those are wonderful words. Thank you, Jerry.
What a colorful place. And the old cars……
Cuba is all colour – at least for a photographer. And yes, the old cars have become an icon, hasn’t it.
I love them all but the image with the Ford Edsel alongside the donkey is wonderful!
Thank you for the feedback, Laura.
You’re welcome 🙂
Fabulous images of a country I would love to visit one day. 🙂
Hopefully you will. 🙂
Cuba is fascinating. I’ve never been there, but still it has this magic feeling and rhythm, very well captured in the images. Every time I visit Florida I go to Key West, the southernmost point of the US. Next to the official signpost is this little sign pointing to Cuba; next stop Cuba.
It’s just a 90 miles swim… Cuba is indeed magical and full of rhythm, literally. Thanks, Dina.
I so need to get back there.
If you have been in Cuba before, you will find that it’s changing rapidly. Better get back before it’s all gone… 🙂
An extra and exotic country beautiful pictures !! thank you
And thank you for the nice words, Pat.
Beste hilsener
More engaging street life…
Thank you, Sally.
Very interesting street views. The subjects and setting are so natural. I just love the picture of the lady smiling. Such a beautiful smile … very happy smile!
Thank you for the comment. 🙂
i like the last picture…. ‘i wanna be a cowboy baby’ lalala
Yes, cowboy is the thing. Thanks, Elaine.
You got the essence down. Each shot tells a good story.
Thank you, Nina.
Very beatiful pics. There is a little bit of HDR post-production, or something like that, which I don’t like very much, but the photos are really storytelling. Congrats Otto!
Thanks for the feedback. No HDR, but only lightening of the shadows and darkening of the highlights.
These are lovely vignettes of Cuba – so colourful, lots of texture and capturing people going about their daily lives…perfect
Thank you for the nice words.
The streets of Cuba and its people lovingly captured. This is a place I would love to visit.
It’s an awesome place to visit. Hope you get a chance one day.
Einen schönen Mittwoch wünsche ich tolle Bilder dort wäre ich jetzt auch gerne.Wünsche einen schönen Tag Grüße und Freundschaft.Gislinde
Vielen Dank für Ihr Erwärmung Worten Gislinde
I love the life and color in these photos. It’s amazing what good shape that ancient car appears to be in. An Edsel, no less! I came close to buying one of those (a used one) back in the day, but settled on a white ’58 Plymouth instead. It was my first car and I loved it.
The Edsel is quite a car, isn’t it! Thanks for your comment.
The young lady’s floral fingernails are quite something. I think they might be the fashion here, too, but not in my circles. They wouldn’t do well with 80 grit sandpaper.
The photo just below is the one that intrigued me. At first glance, the large pillar appeared to have been decorated with an abstraction of some sort. A closer look revealed that it’s simply crumbled a bit. Still, I like it. Sometimes rhyme and rhythm turn a sentence into accidental poetry. Here you’ve given us a beautiful example of accidental art.
I like that idea, rhyme and rhythm in a picture. Cuba is very much like that, falling apart and in that process producing some amazingly beautiful “decorations”. Thank you for your lovely comment, Linda.
I’ve not been to Cuba but the noticeable feature of these images is the selection of significant details and view points that say so much and convey a clear sense of place.
I am glad you get a sense of the place from these images. Cuba is quite unlike any other place I have visit, part Caribbean, part Latin-american, part East Block communism and part American 50’s – all mixed together and a bit worn out.
Magical indeed! Thank you for this wonderful peek into life in Cuba! ( I love your reply to Louis here, a fantastic description.)
Thank you, Susan, very nice to read.
Beautiful images. I love how you compose and capture vivid colours in your street shots. Thanks for sharing, Otto.
And thank you for the nice words, Uday.
Great photos Otto
Thank you, Roland.
Sometimes I feel like I repeat the same things when I see these photos from Cuba, Otto, but I absolutely love them. I don’t know how you capture the perspective that you do, but the photos become so full of interest! The vibrant colors are spectacular, too!
I am glad you like the photos, Debra. Thank you.
These are the people and places I see in my dreams about Cuba. Fantastic shots ~ the first one is the sight I wish to see most, classic autos within a street that feels like a home. You have chosen such a great diversity and mix with the shots Otto, incredible as your work often is.
You make me blush, Randall. Thank you very much.
Ha, ha ~ take care and enjoy the weekend Otto!
Loving the cigar photo!
Thank you, Carolyn.
Such beautiful photos! I would love to make a trip to Cuba and take to the streets to try and capture some images. Of course they would not be nearly as good as yours but I would love to just immerse myself and roam with my camera.
I think anyone needs to take his or her kind of picture without compare with others. What in the end is better? The only thing that matters is if the photographer shoots with her or his heart. Thanks for the lovely words, though.
You make it so compelling.
I am not trying to make Cuba compelling, it’s just a very special place. 🙂
Really good set of shots. Particularly like the 1st and last. The processing is eye-catching too. Excellent.
Thank you for the nice words, Samuel.
Amazing wonderful shots. What struck me is how these peoples are stuck in the 1950’s because of political circumstances yet the young woman’s manicure is totally today!! Glad you included that shot.
Well, that is very typical Cuban. 🙂
Wow, beautiful photos. I especially like the one with the older man smoking a cigar.
Thank you for the nice words.
I love your style ! It’s unique and colourful and so beautiful !
And you’re so good at conveying emotions through your photos.
Thank you for those words.
classic shots 🙂
Thank you, Joshi.
This rekindles my burning flame of yearning for South America! But I need to finish Asia first!
We can’t be everywhere at the same time, can we! 🙂
If only we could!
What a dazzling collection of images, Otto. Anything else I could say would break the magical spell cast by you here!
You words touches me. Thank you.
Otto, when i heard President Obama announce the reaching out to Cuba, i remembered this post! What timing!
Hopefully things will change – even if it will take some time.
These images are so alive, one could walk right into any of them. Beautiful.
I am glad you liked the photos. Thank you for the nice words, Elen.
