Summer is on the wane. I have probably done my last backpacking in the Norwegian mountains this season. Last week we hiked around the mountain area called Stølsheimen in the western part of the country. We spent some delightful days in rough terrain far away from people, in the middle of nowhere, with only sunshine, some showers, rocks, meadows and an occasional dot of snow here and there for company. Recharging and gathering strength again (and at the same time becoming very fatigued – if that makes sense…). Because of the absence of any means of communication I have at the same time been away from any kind of blogging. But I am back now, and will soon start to visit all your blogs again. Thanks for the patience.

Ted doesn’t always come along on travels. It depends on his mood. It’s my love one’s and mine. And yes, we have a lot of fun with Ted.

Oh my, now I’ve fallen in love…with Ted! Such a well-traveled gentleman – I was especially surprised and pleased to see him visiting the Valley of Fire in Nevada. I grew up near there (in Las Vegas) so that’s one of my old stomping grounds. The petroglyphs there are fascinating.
PS: Summer hiking in Norway looks COLD! but beautiful…….
As you can see in some of the photos, we were actually hiking in shorts and t-shirt, but yes, the landscape is definitely cold – at places. Fun that you like Ted travels. I agree with you that the petroglyphs are fascinating.

Very rugged texture on a beautiful landscape that demands good hiking boots.. Someone took a can of paint with them to mark the rock? I could see the progression of the hike through the gestures and changes of clothing of your partner as well as the land itself.. And look at those clouds. I also like exploring the the small plants and features in such a large space.Very interesting photos.

The processing (assuming these are shot on a smart phone) adds to the feel of wildness. I’m just back from 2weeks in Switzerland. The weather was not good – it seems to have been an unusual season across much of Europe.
It does seem to have been an unusual summer in Europe, but the place I have been to have been unusual dry and warm. Except for this last hike. I am sure you had some great hiking in Switzerland as well, Andy.
By the way, the images were captured with a “real” camera (Canon EOS-5).

My fellow camera club member has a little frog comes along with us on some photo shoots and shows up in many pictures in amazingly creative ways.A lot of fun. I read about the trail mark -good idea as it could be easy to get lost in that terrain.Enjoy the hot tub when you get down to the valley. I sure hope to get to the mountains before fall, started a new job.
It’s really fun to have a little fellow to photograph in all kinds of situations. I cross my fingers for a trip for you in the mountains before autumn sets in. Good luck with the new job!

Your post-processing gave the set of images an old-world sensibility. It really works so well. There’s patina that draws me into each frames glorious landscape and small or large vistas.
I tried to create a feeling of an old world, because for me nature is old, has been around much longer than us human beings – and will be around long after we have gone. Thanks for the lovely comment, Sally.

It seems we both try to capture (in photos and words) the spirit of where we are and do research before and after we travel. Since 2013 I have used a Sony NEX-5N mirrorless SLR almost exclusively and I wear it around my neck, ready. I don’t apologize for looking like what I am – a tourist. I bought a safari type Tilley vest which has pockets galore, including one interior pocket big enough to hold the Sony when I need to put it away – at dinner, for example. It replaces, for me, three cameras with many benefits and a few compromises. But life is full of fortunate compromises…

Long ago Stephen Covey’s book made a strong impression.. Two of those 7 habits quite often or I quote them to others… One is “Seek first to understand and then to be understood..” wow, does that ever diffuse conflict! the other is number 7- ‘Remember to sharpen the saw..’
It is so beneficial to take a timeout from the demands of work and society… Of course you learned that long ago and prompt others to do the same.
