During the photo workshop in Bolivia this spring Johnny Wichmann, one of the participants, captured daily life in its beauty and easiness as it goes about. He captured moments of playfulness, of relationship, of seriousness, of interactions – all those small instants that make up people’s life. His work has a very distinct colour palette and a very honest way of showing how naturally he relates to his subject. For him the decisive moment is clearly an underlying driving force, although not focusing on the big moments, but the more subtle and more unobtrusive split seconds of human conduct.

If you want to see more of Johnny’s pictures from Bolivia, you can look up the book Bolivia 2013 which showcases the work of all the participants. All the images are available on preview, but it’s also possible to buy the book.

  1. Life and Hope, that is what the first photos shouts out to me. In some way, it complements the 3rd photo. The 3rd photo is incredible…so well done to capture the feeling.

  2. The first one I want to laugh and hug it , the third one is so sad. Your book shows your ability to help your students find their unique visions. Really quite special. Thank you. Carla

  3. The workshop was a success if you had participants “seeing pictures in a scene.” Just to experience another side of life would be illuminating. My commendations to Johnny Wichmann on his work. There isn’t only a great and rich depth to the colors of his photographs, there is also a matching depth in the presentation of the people.

  4. Great pictures, so genuin 🙂 and at the same time quite reflected – the colour sheme and the angle from which the situation is caught.
I wish you a happy weekend

  5. Here is another example of your work as a mentor and teacher. I applaud you, sharing your passion for photography and social issues as part of the “workshop” concept. These experiences change forever the participants’ as well as your life. Again your influence can be interpreted through the eyes of Johnny’s work.

  6. “daily life captured in its beauty and easiness”. Just lovely, Munchow. I in my western side of the world wish for more ease of existence, less angst. So those words really impacted on me. Beautiful, simple photos by Johnny indeed.

  7. Real, moving, stirs one’s heart. When they smile, we feel like smiling. When they cry, our heart goes with their tears. When they jump, we felt their joy and excitement. Like captured so vividly that we relate with every emotion.

    1. And thanks for commenting on Johnny’s work, Michelle! Hope you are doing well, by the way, it’s been a long times since we could read news from you. 🙂

  8. These are fabulous photos! I love the colors in each one, and yet, of course, the subjects move me around the emotional wheel! Joy to pain, exuberance and grief, and life in the every day! I love that Johnny caught the mama pig feeding her babies. The composition in that photo is really engaging. Someone else used the word “vivid” and I like that for these photos. They are! Very sharp detail and color, too.

  9. I like the natural, candid moments he captures. My favorite HAS to be the one with the woman holding the child, clothes on the clothesline, and suckling pigs! No one would think to POSE a shot like that.

  10. Beautiful slices of live in another culture. My favorite is the fourth with its mother and child, pig and babies and the clothesline of colorful clothes…the mother’s smile speaks of a contented life no matter how simple.
